I’ve known Courtney and Ritchie only a year, since moving to Georgia and starting my Master’s program with UGA.
Courtney and I are both pursuing our MSW degrees and met on the first day during orientation. I truly believe that our friendship—including our little group of six—is, in my opinion, God-ordained.
I prayed for community that would not only be sources of support and laughter during this incredibly difficult year of adjusting and growth, but also for group of friends that together, we could help spur each other on in our walks with Christ. And interestingly enough, without Court—along with God’s stirring in my heart—I don’t think I would have met the girls who would become my community here in Athens, Georgia. Our first year of friendship involved lots of Wednesday night hangouts, internship vent sessions, a dreamy spring break trip to Courtney’s hometown of Pensacola, FL, and so much more.
So, when Court approached me and asked if I would take her and Ritchie’s engagement photos for their upcoming nuptials, it was an easy YES!
I’m very proud of this shoot because Court and Ritchie were actually my first client engagement photos, ever. I think it was safe to say we were all a little nervous.
Me–trying my best to capture their love in photo form–I wanted to do it justice, as best I could.
Them–because taking pictures can be just plain awkward!
Luckily enough, after the first few snaps of photos, we started getting into the swing of things and any feelings of nervousness I felt melted away as I got into my element and started directing.
Our first stop was the Georgia Botanical Gardens in Athens. A beautiful and popular destination for Athenian locals to explore and take some nice, nature-filled pictures.
We then headed to St. Stephens Anglican Catholic Church a little ways from the gardens to take a few “Going to the Chapel”-esque photos in a more rustic setting.
I loved the opportunity to capture these two together. Their sweet chemistry and love for one another was palpable—which truly brought hopeless romantic in me alive. I’m so excited for these two to tie the knot and am even more excited to see the awesome things God will do through their union. Thanks for being willing to give this budding photographer a chance to try something new!
p.s. check out that ring *swoons* nice work, Ritchie!
Congrats again, you two!
